CRIB NOTES
This is a literacy strategy to give students a notebook of tools that they will be able to utilize throughout high school and college.
Students will keep a "Crib-Notes Notebook' throughout the year. This is something that I recommend that they keep in their possession as they continue throughout their educational career.
This strategy is something that I have devised myself as a means to simplify writing for students. In my classroom I will present various mini-lessons based on areas where I see deficiencies, or I know will be useful for the student in future writing.
When I see a common error that appears in students' writing, I will plan a mini-lesson with "Crib-Notes" as a means to assist the student in future writing endeavors. I will require that students keep a notebook of these "Crib-Notes" for class, but I recommend that they use a smart-phone or a camera to take pictures, so that they can refer back to these guides as needed.
An example of an entry in the notebook would be a "Crib-Notes" graphic organizer involving MLA Format. I will give them an organizer for book research and online research. While we, as a class, research a topic of study, the student will use the "Crib-Notes" organizer to cite sources. The organizer will be designed to assist the student in organizing their sources in the style necessary to create a Works Cited page (as required in M.L.A. Format) when research is complete.
This is a valuable strategy that students can utilize throughout high school and college, and may even be relevant within the workplace.
