CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT POLICY
Effective teachers are the single most important variable that affects student learning, and a teacher cannot be effective without a properly designed and consistent behavior management plan which includes daily procedures and positive discipline strategies. Students cannot learn in a disruptive unorganized classroom that does not have these systems in place from the first day of school and consistently practiced and implemented throughout the school year.
RULES
My classroom has three simple rules which can cover any potentially disruptive situation.
· Respect Yourself
· Respect Others
· Be Safe
On the first day of class, we will discuss as a class what is disruptive behavior to create a poster board which will remain displayed throughout the year. In the center of the poster board the three rules will be written, and I will allow each student to write a short sentence explaining what the rules mean to him or her. I will take a photo of the poster and send it home to parents along with a contract explaining my expectations, and consequences for disruptive behavior. It is expected to be returned to me within the first week of school for a grade so that all three of us can unite in order to stress the importance of expected classroom behavior.
PROCEDURES
Procedures are daily expectations of what is proper behavior. In order to expect students to follow the rules, a teacher needs to explain and model procedures. It is difficult for a student to follow the classroom rules if there are no proper procedures in place.
We will begin the first day with modeling the following proper classroom procedures.
· Start of class procedures.
· Desk procedures.
· Line-up procedures.
· Hallway procedures.
· Lunch procedures.
· Restroom procedures.
· End of class procedures.
NEW STUDENTS
If a student should join my classroom in the middle of the school year, we will spend some time as a class discussing the rules and procedures together as a group and I will assign a student as a “buddy” to help him or her with classroom expectations. This will be an opportunity to revisit and refresh classroom rules and procedures for all of the students.
STUDENT AND TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES
My Responsibility to you as a teacher is to:
1. Treat you with respect and care as an individual.
2. Provide you with an orderly classroom environment.
3. Provide you with the necessary discipline.

CLASSROOM SET-UP My classroom will be set up with the desks shaped in a “U” formation with enough room to for me to walk through whenever needed. This will be in an effort for me to be able to move freely around the classroom and monitor student behavior at all times.
PARENT COMMUNICATION I will be available at all times by email for parents at [email protected]. I will have a classroom website with all homework assignments and links for students who need assistance.
